Spirit Week Continued + more

There are a few more pics from spirit week at the end of this post!

As I am updating, the students are working hard on their version of Mouse Trap- using recyclable materials!  In Earth science this year, we have been able to do some cool projects!  We just recently finished up our rocks and minerals unit.  We observed salt becoming crystalized; made our own rock models- sedimentary using peanut butter and crackers, metamorphic using 2 different colored Laffy Taffy, and igneous by melting chocolate bars and letting them harden again; and shown the rock cycle using sugar cubes (very cool- the students even did great having a lit candle!)  We have been discussing recyclable materials and energy sources in class, so this week's project has involved your student probably going through your trash (or recycle bin) and finding just the right objects to use in their version of Mouse Trap!  They have planned out and duct taped and brainstormed together how they can build a maze for a marble to go through using coke bottles, milk jugs, cardboard boxes, and toilet paper rolls!  I'll get those pics up ASAP!  We will (of course) place all of our materials in the recycle box when we're finished!

This week's Bible focus has been appropriately discussing Jehovah Jireh and how our Lord provides for us.  We read the account of Abraham and Isaac.  In light of Thanksgiving next week, we were reminded of how much our God loves us and how he provides for us.  It is always so endearing to hear the students speak of how God provides for them in their lives and how they already recognize His hand in their lives!  I know for me (Miss Lindsey Grace) the Lord provided this opportunity for me to teach your children at a time when I needed a "refreshment" in my teaching career.  I am so thankful for each of these students and count each student as a blessing to be involved in their education!

Happy Thanksgiving to your family-- we hope you have a great week off!  Here's the rest of the Spirit Day pics!

Catching Up!

Hello All!
I promise we didn't forget about the blog- but the days just go by so quickly and between Hillary and I taking pictures, we didn't have them all in the same place!  And what's a blog without pictures?!

So here's a recap of some things we've been doing in class!

We had our news broadcasts.  This was our vocabulary activity for the week.  The students each had to use their Wordly Wise vocabulary words for the week and incorporate them into their portion of the broadcast.  (Among the students, we are on four different levels, so each student was responsible for their own words for the week.)  Each broadcast had two news anchors, a sports segment, the weather report, and a health update.  Everyone did a spectacular job with this- it's always great seeing our theatrical personalities come out!

What a great looking group of newscasters, weathermen (and women), traffic reporters, and sports broadcasters!
We also had a great time at our first annual Snowden School Spirit Week!!  Our spirit days were baby day, senior citizen day, and we ended the week with a wacky spirit day!  Special thanks to all you parents who made sure your students were dressed up and ready for a fun week!  Believe it or not, despite all the goofy pictures and costumes, the students still worked hard all week; so it was a great break on Thursday when we were able to put aside the school books and have a fun afternoon!

Snowden Settlements

We had so much fun watching the student groups present their settlements!  It was obvious that each group and individual took lots of time researching and planning.  Here are a few pictures of the groups.  Enjoy!

Welcome to our blog!!

We're so glad you're here!  You will be able to keep up with what we're doing in class, read articles and contributions from our students, and leave your comments on what a great job our student(s) are doing!!

We will try to keep it update every couple of weeks.  I (Miss Lindsey) will post pics from our Snowden Colony presentations soon!  Leave a comment if you would like me to email all of them to you.  The presentation ones aren't great, but the group ones in the backyard are fantastic
**I only have a kodak easy share camera- nothing fancy!

Check back often for updates!  Hope you enjoy!
